What GLP-1 Does Before It Becomes a Drug Name
GLP-1 is not a brand name. It is a hormone the body makes, largely in response to eating, that helps coordinate appetite, digestion, insulin release, and signals of fullness. The video begins there, with the basic gut-to-brain conversation that makes the current medication category easier to understand without turning it into a slogan about willpower. Medicines such as semaglutide and tirzepatide work by mimicking or extending parts of that signaling system. In plain terms, they can make it easier for some people to feel full sooner and eat less, while also changing how quickly food moves through the digestive system. That mechanism helps explain why people talk about less hunger or less "food noise," but it does not explain every outcome, side effect, or reason a clinician might prescribe one medicine rather than another.
